One of the reasons for church is to be intimate with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We must have an actual union with Christ and his Body, the Church. This union happens when we all take on the flesh of Christ. This happens when the priest prays the words of consecration over the host or The Eucharist (Thanksgiving).
“Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours.”
Mark 11:24 NABRE
This union is real and intimate as a husband and wife bond. It IS a marriage with Christ at the table of Grace.
Many others have tried to imitate this type of act. You see it in other ceremonies of other denominations that try to “act-out” this Sacred Union. This is the same as in our culture people have sex outside of marriage. There is no value in it. They are acting out the marriage act without the bonds the Christ has put in place. It’s adultery 101! It’s a counterfeit marriage!
Christ instituted marriage as a Sacrament to show us what he desires for himself with us in this Sacrament of Holy Communion. It’s a wedding.
